Varadero airport is situated between the city of Matanzas (13 Km) and the the famous Varadero peninsula (25 Km). Our Casa Hostal Azul in Matanzas is the closest Bed & Breakfast place to Varadero Airport and is a preferred homestay for Cuba travellers after arrival and before departure. Varadero is situated 135 Km from the capital of Cuba: Havana

There are no licensed Casas Particulares on the Varadero peninsula

There are no Casa Particular (Bed & Breakfast) allowed to operate in Varadero. Many travellers however, regardless of their flight arrangements, choose to stay overnight in Matanzas and enjoy the numerous attractions in Varadero during the day. Some go to swim with the delphins, others rent yacht trips, walk along the long beaches, shop or go to the shows. There are bus connections (VIAZUL) from Matanzas to Varadero (about 40 Km), taxi is never a problem and, for Cuba-experienced travellers, hitchhiking opportunities (ADVICE: the pick-up point on the railway crossing behind the Sausa-Theater, just 5 Minuntes from Casa).

FAQ No. 1: Where are the beaches in Matanzas?
A small beach El Tenis is situated about 4 Km from Hostal Azul, along the Malecon sea shore boulevard.
Another beach, Playa Coral, about 15 Km. Playa Coral is suitable for diving. Both are small and not as impressive as the beaches of Varadero.

Aus Kuba zurückgekehrt, möchte ich Ihnen meine durchwegs positiven Eindrücke der beiden Casas (Hostal Azul und Hostal Alma) in Matanzas mitteilen. Zum Unterschied von vielen anderen Unterkünften hatte ich hier nie den Eindruck, als Tourist abgezockt zu werden und auch bei meinem Versuch, das Abhandenkommen meiner (mir) wertvollen Goldkette nachzuvollziehen, war mir die Hausfrau äußerst behilflich. Dank ihrer Beobachtung weiß ich, daß diese Kette, die ich sehr sorgsam verwahrt hatte, aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach in einer anderen Casa gestohlen wurde.

Auch ihr Schwiegersohn im Hostal Azul war mir bei meiner Abreise sehr behilflich, man sieht, wie sehr beiden das Wohlbefinden der Gäste am Herzen liegt. Dies äußert sich nicht zuletzt im köstlichen Essen, in einer zuvorkommenden Bedienung und in einem sauberen, einladenden Zimmer - zwei Häuser, die unbedingt weiterzuempfehlen sind und die es verdienen, als "heißer Tip" gehandelt zu werden.
